The inception of Shankerlala Dhanaraj Signodia college was possible with the exemplary and generous donations of Shri Dhanraj Signodia, Shri L.N.Gupta ji, Shri B.Kishan Lal Ji, Shri Banarasi Lal Ji and the same philonthropists were the instrumental in establishing a women’s college in this part of the city, at times when not so many girls had access to higher education and emerged as one of the 14 Educational Institutions established and managed by Agarwal Siksha Samiti during the academic year 1971-72
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work” Colin Powell had rightly said and same is true in the case of Signodia College, with indomitable spirit and foresightedness of Agarwal Siksha Samiti Management and persistent efforts of staff, the Signodians are celebrating its Golden Jubilee Celebrations 0f 1971-2021.
The first Correspondent of the college was Shri Satyanarayana and the first Principal of the college was Smt. Suman Latha Sanghi. This college was originally started as a women’s college with B.A. Course and later converted as a Commerce College with two sections of B. Com Course for boys.
During 1976-77 in the tenure of ex-principal Shri K.Dattathreyulu, this college was granted Aid as the State-Government but only for one section and the college steadily established. Hence from there on wards there was no looking back. The foundation was laid and the urge to serve the society by providing quality education began. The college authority with the help of their efficient staff also started with P.G. Course as well as management Course. Today if we look back to the years bygone, S.D.Signodia College has almost touched the horizons in the field of education. Irrespective of the State record the college has also spread its wings in extra and Co-Curricular activities. Hence, the college promotes for an all-round development of the students. It also becomes prior to discuss the vision and mission of the college as well as the goals and achievements of the college side by side.
Dr. D.V.G. Krishna took over the charge as the principal in the year 1983 with a strength of 100 students. Since then the College made rapid strides. The second section of B. Com was revived with girl students in the year 1984, which was admitted with grant-in-aid during the year 1991. Various courses at U.G. & P.G. levels were started at various intervals in the college i.e. B.A. Office Management, B.A. Commerce under restructured courses, M. Com, P.G.D.C.A and M.B.A were also introduced. M.Com course was started during the academic year 1994-95 and with unstinted zeal for service M.B.A was also started during the academic year 2001-02 to produce the best professional managers and entrepreneurs for a better society in the global business scenario.
This college, being one of the prestigious institutions in the twin cities, under the affiliation of Osmania University Presently, offering varied courses at U. G & P. G level such as B. Com (General), B. Com (Computers), M. Com and M.B.A with more than 500 students which includes a few students from neighboring states. The staff of this college, even in the COVID-19 Pandemic times strived constantly to equip and educate the students by upgrading their teaching -learning methods.
The college organizes a variety of academic lectures, seminars and workshops to enhance students’ knowledge and various competitions to exhibit to improve their cognizant and artistic skills.
U.G.C GRANTS TO COLLEGE
The striking feature of this College is the U.G.C Grants from New DELHI. The College for the first time at the end of the 6th Plan was made eligible to receive U.G.C Grants by Dr. D.V.G. Krishna, since then the College has received grants under various schemes like COHSSIP, Restructured Grants, Computer grants, Development Assistance grants, Remedial Course Grants, PTAC Grants, Educational Innovation, FDP grants and Sports grants. owing to its consistency in maintaining standards of quality education and related facilities, the college has been re-accredited with ‘B+’ grade by NAAC, Bangalore.
